Effect of Oxandrolone Treatment on Hyperlipidemia




Abstract
This study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of oxandrolone on hyperlipidemia. Oxandrolone at dose of 7.5mg/day was administered for 4 weeks duration to 17 men and 10 women ranging from 22 to 68 years of age. The serum triglyceride and cholesterol levels were significantly decreased after treatment. (P<0.05)
SGOT, SGPT, alkaline phosphatase and TTT were in normal range during treatment.
No significant changes were observed in serum glucose, uric acid, creatinine and urinalysis. No ECG changes were noted during treatment. One patient complaints of mild swelling of face.
It is concluded that oxandrolone has significant effect on treatment of hyperlipidemia without discernible untoward reactions.
